Continuous detection of surface defects

Quick, precise and with a high degree of reliability – that’s what you expect of the measuring accuracy from individual sensors. Single axis units of the past were replaced with fault detectors (lump & neckdown detectors) with 2 axes because defects in extruded surfaces were not covered with a restricted angle of view in the circumference of the whole product. When extruding, encasing, painting, drawing and other processes there is still a remaining risk of undetected small lumps, dents, blisters and pinholes.


The latest units are equipped with 3 axes. The smallest knot and constriction in conductors, cables, pipes and hoses is precisely detected with an almost 3 times higher detection reliability than their predecessors at all line speeds. Minimum defect heights of only 0.01 mm and minimum defect lengths of 0.2 mm are quickly and reliably detected at every line speed.


A powerful microprocessor as well as fully digitalized data processing allow the evaluation, display and saving of the height, depth and length of the defects in addition to the normal functions. Furthermore the unique measuring field scanning procedure combined with complex optics guarantees against interference from external light sources.

Fault detectors, such as the units of the KW TRIO series, are extremely robust and small and can easily be integrated into every extrusion line and rewinding unit.

The fault detectors are available in various versions, even as standalone units. Thanks to the local operating and display unit the KW TRIO detectors can be operated and configured directly.
